Dr. Pitt is an expert on stormwater management. He has extensive project and research experiences. He served on the School of Engineering faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1987 to 2001. Prior to that, he was a senior engineer for 16 years in industry and government, and continues to consult many municipalities and engineering firms. His research includes integrating green infrastructure controls in areas having combined sewers stormwater treatment using media filtration optimized drainage options for biofiltration systems groundwater impacts from seepage wells used for the subsurface disposal of stormwater beneficial uses of stormwater in times of changing weather conditions and sources and fate of indicator bacteria in urban areas. Dr. Pitt has conducted research for the U.S. EPA, Environment Canada, Ontario Ministry of the Environment, states, and local governments concerning the beneficial uses, effects, sources, and control of wet weather flows for more than 40 years. He was a member of the technical advisory group for the EPA’s Nationwide Urban Runoff Program (NURP). He also prepared the Source Loading and Management Model (WinSLAMM). He has taught workshops and has been a guest lecturer at several universities. He has advised Beijing in stormwater management through green infrastructure practices since last year. He has published more than 100 chapters, books, journal articles, and major research reports. He holds a BS degree in Engineering Science from Humboldt State University, a MS degree in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University, and a PhD degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
