Multech conducted physical model study for the Santa Clara Valley Water District to improve the as-designed energy dissipation system of Bollinger Road Bridge culvert in Cupertino, California. The energy dissipation system includes rock weirs in a short reach upstream of the bridge, concrete weirs within the bridge section, and a scour pool with concrete weirs downstream of the bridge. Through an extensive test program, a recommended design scheme was developed. The recommended energy dissipation system increases the energy-dissipating capacity, minimizes the environmental impacts, and reduces the construction cost.
